According to the Myanmar Golden Phoenix News, the Qingshuihe chamber of Commerce said that China has re approved Myanmar to export four kinds of raw material products to China through the Qingshuihe port, such as sugarcane, rubber, snow swallow and cotton.
China and Myanmar have 8 ports to carry out border trade business. From April 7 to July 8, 2021, 7 land ports will be closed one after another. From October 6, the last land border trade port, Qingshuihe port, was also closed. In addition to fighting COVID-19 supplies and medical equipment, other commodities are not allowed to enter or leave.
At present, Myanmar watermelon and other fruits have entered the peak export season to China, and the closure of ports has made it difficult for Myanmar agricultural products to enter the Chinese market. After the closure of Qingshuihe port, the Wanding melon and fruit trade market has repatriated thousands of Myanmar migrant workers. As Myanmar bananas cannot enter the Chinese market through border trade, the supply of domestic bananas is insufficient, and the price is bullish all the way.
It is reported that the Commerce Bureau of Lincang City, Yunnan Province, which borders the Qingshui River, has approved Myanmar’s export of sugarcane, rubber, snow swallow and cotton. The above products can be exported after obtaining the permission of the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar. A person in charge of Muse Nankan Border Trade Chamber of Commerce said that rice, corn, pepper, watermelon, cantaloupe and other agricultural products have not been approved for export.
Myanmar mainly exports agricultural products to China through Qingshuihe port, and imports food and building materials from China. According to the data of Myanmar’s Ministry of Commerce, in fiscal year 2019-2020, the coastal trade volume of Qingshui estuary was about USD 541 million, including Myanmar’s export volume of USD 400 million and import volume of USD 116 million. In fiscal year 2020-2021, by the end of August 2021, the trade volume of Qingshui River was about 450 million US dollars.
