Since the first bumper harvest in 2019, the Red Sea planting Cranberry base in Fuyuan has ushered in a bumper harvest for the third consecutive year. Among the 4200 mu of cranberries in the base, only 1500 mu of cranberries have entered the high-yield period, and the remaining 2700 Mu have not started to bear fruit. Cranberry began to bear fruit after planting for 3 years and reached high yield in 5 years. Now the yield per mu is 2.5-3 tons, and the quality and output are better and better year by year. The cranberry fruit hanging and picking period is from September to mid and late October every year. Because of the advanced preservation technology and its natural and lasting preservation function, the cranberry tasting period can last until the next spring. The cranberry products of the base are selling well in many places across the country and supply major supermarkets. Although Cranberry tastes sour, it is still favored by the market because consumers generally believe that it has high nutritional value. At present, the market price of cranberry fresh fruit is 150 yuan / kg. Cranberry fruits are usually harvested in the form of “water harvest”. Near the harvest season, fruit farmers will inject water into the cranberry field to completely submerge the plants under the water. Water agricultural machinery drove through the fields, and cranberries were knocked down from the vines and floated to the water, forming patches of Red Sea. The 4200 Mu Cranberry in the Red Sea planting base was divided into 130 different areas during early sowing, and each area is equipped with a set of water circulation system. The agricultural machinery collects cranberries at the rate of 50-60 mu per day. After harvest, the water is extracted to avoid long-term immersion of cranberries in water. Cranberry is rich in vitamins. It is usually made into cranberry juice and cranberry cakes. Its production areas are mainly in the United States, Canada and Chile. In recent years, domestic Cranberry consumption has increased rapidly and has become the second largest importer of cranberries in the United States. The Chinese market is dominated by imported dried cranberries. From 2012 to 2017, the consumption of cranberries in the Chinese market increased by 728%, and the sales volume of dried cranberries increased by 1000%. In 2018, China purchased $55 million worth of dried cranberries, becoming the largest consumer of dried cranberries in the United States. However, since the Sino US trade war, China’s imports of cranberries have decreased significantly year-on-year. In recent years, cranberry’s recognition in the Chinese market has also improved to a certain extent. According to the survey report released by Nielsen in January 2021, the cognitive rate of cranberry in China maintained an upward trend and reached 71%. Because cranberries are rich in beneficial ingredients such as proanthocyanidins, related products show a hot sales trend. Meanwhile, the re purchase rate of cranberry increased significantly, and 77% of respondents said they had purchased cranberry products more than 4 times in the past year. Cranberry entered the Chinese market in 2004. At present, most consumers still focus on dried fruit and preserved fruit, but the imagination space of cranberry products is far more than that. Taking the North American market as a reference, dried fruit accounts for only a small part of cranberry processing products, 80% are consumed in the form of fruit juice, and 5% – 10% are fresh fruit markets. However, in the Chinese market, mainstream Cranberry brands such as oceanspray, Graceland fruit, Seeberger and U100 still focus on processing and retail preserved fruit and dried fruit. In the past two years, the quality and yield of domestic cranberries have been greatly improved, and fresh cranberries have gradually begun to appear. In 2020, Costco put Cranberry fresh fruits grown locally in China on the shelves in its stores in Shanghai. The relevant person in charge said that fresh fruits became a best-selling item and were sought after by consumers.
